Brand & Content Writing

(Otherwise known as “keeping the lights on”)

A novelist moonlighting as a branded content writer and copywriter means rich, narrative-driven stories that capture interest way more than AI cranked-out garbage. I work as a contract senior copywriter and on marketing projects mostly for travel, lifestyle, and retail brands, infusing this work with the same care and interest I bring to my editorial writing.

I don't have a ton of clips of this work because of client contracts, and lawyers will hunt me down (kidding, probably). But take a peek at the below and don’t hesitate to reach out for specific rates or just to chat.

What I do:

  • Hospitality & Travel Specialty - Deep knowledge of the Boston food and restaurant scene, with national travel credits including Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure. Just as comfortable researching and writing about a place I’ve never been. If you need someone who knows the difference between a destination piece and a sales page (and who can knock out both), I’m your pen for hire.

  • Content Strategy - Editorial planning (AKA - all the calendars), brand storytelling, sponsored content, and narrative-forward destination and travel content. I'm comfortable operating as a one-person content studio or slotting into an existing team.

  • Copywriting - Web copy, email marketing, direct-mail campaigns, creative briefs, advertorials, A/B subject line testing, reviews, technical manuals, in-store and experiential copy.

  • Social Media Content - Platform voice development, post copy, video script writing, content calendars, and campaign concepts.

    • I ran social content for Eater Boston—including pieces about Boston food identity and quirky human interest stories that generated significant Instagram response—and have written social copy for national retail brands including TJX.

    • My own Instagram presence (@nathantavares) is a live example of how I think about voice-driven, audience-first social content as essentially a one-man PR firm for my fiction writing. More about creating moments that spark laughs and conversations, not about chasing memes. I’m trying to have a laugh, and my publisher has yet to ask me to stop, so….win?

Past clients have included:

  • Travel + Leisure GO - Travel itineraries and destination guides. I received a spreadsheet of hotels, events, and destinations to include, and then turned them into commerce-happy, editorial-like travel guides, including:
